Why people don't believe in evolution?

Evolution is the change in the inherited characteristics of biological populations over successive generations. Evolutionary processes give rise to diversity at every level of biological organisation , including species , individual organisms and molecules such as DNA and proteins.

That's the definition of evolution you are going to get on Wikipedia. I know it sounds like very 'Hi-Fi' and complex thing to understand but believe me, it's not so. In simple words, the theory of evolution attempts to answer a question mankind has been trying to answer for, well, for as long as they have been intelligent enough to ask questions at all-how did life form originate on earth? How did we 'occur'?
I believe questions like these which the ancient man was not able to answer due to their poor knowledge of science led to the creation of religion. Religion attempted to answer these questions-and they did it in their own ways. And believe me, some of them are just ridiculous. No don't get me wrong, I am not talking about some obsolete religion of south Americas tribal people, I am talking about the bible. According to bible, God created Adam and Eve and all other human beings are just their descendants. I know I have offended many people by saying anything against the bible, but then just look at the topics this blog has covered till now-we are not here to please or offend anyone- we are here to express our views.
Anyway back to the topic, I was talking about how people have been trying for centuries in vain to answer the questions I have stated above. As it happened, Charles Darwin had a theory about it, and he published it in his seminal book 'The origin of species'.

Mr. Darwin's ideas were both widely criticized and accepted by people at that time. But hey, during that time, literacy rate of the whole human population was below 30%. It then makes sense that many people choose to believe what they had been tought since their childhood. But WHAT DOESN'T MAKE ANY SENSE IS THAT A LARGE NUMBER OF PEOPLE STILL DON'T BELIEVE IN EVOLUTION.
According to a latest survey, Nearly one third of Americans don't believe in evolution. Think what this signifies-this means they believe that humans and other life forms have existed in their current states since the beginning of time.
I don't mean to be rude, but I think whoever says they are educated and still don't believe in evolution due to their religious beliefs, are, well, just stupid.
The saddest part? Just Google "why people don't believe in evolution" and the second result that shows up reads"WHY PEOPLE BELIEVE IN EVOLUTION". I don't hold much faith in God, but if I did, the first thing I would have asked of him is "leave the uneducated, they are brainwashed, at least don't let 30% of your literate people be idiots".
